The Department of Agriculture has declared the seven-kilometer radius quarantine zone in San Luis town in Pampanga clear of the avian influenza virus.
Citing information from the DA, dzBB’s Allan Gatus on Friday morning said that weeks of closely monitoring the area yielded negative results for the presence of the virus.
Agriculture secretary Manny Piñol had reported that the outbreak of the avian flu virus in Pampaga first began in a quail farm in San Luis town on August 8.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of fowl have been culled to rid the area of the virus.
The DA subsequently implemented a ban on shipments of Luzon fowl and poultry products to the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Last August 22, the DA lifted the ban after announcing that the spread of the virus had been contained.
But close monitoring in the provinces of Pampanga and Nueva Ecija continued until the DA declared the affected areas free of the avian flu virus this Friday. —Akari Nakano/LBG/KVD, GMA News
